Reviews from Frame It! Exxon-Mobil Screening (Oct 2008)
“It is inspiring to see the efforts of these two kids in order to prove that they are as competent as anyone else irrespective of their medical background. The film comprises of glimpses from their daily lives and their own views on various things. It’s a beautifully made documentary photographed by Ho Jia Jian, the President of nuSTUDIOS.” – To read the full review, visit here
“The only documentary for the night set itself [to] show that reality could be as engaging as fiction. The film spoke of two kidney patients and their ability to lead engaging lives, changing the perception of what normality should have to entail. A certain clarity and innocence is captured in the first hand interviews of these two patients. Besides speaking directly to the camera, the perspective of the other is well captured through the banter of the two boys. The casualness of the dialogue peppered with slang seemed to be spontaneous and the director certainly did a good job in depicting it [...] In Our Own Words portrays the strength in the human mind amidst adversity in a light and inspiring manner.” – To read the full review, visit here
Review from Best of First Take screening (Dec 2008)
“It has the feel of a CNA documentary and I disagree with some of the remarks made by the interviewed subjects but they are kids and probably were too caught up in telling their views. However, it is a very uplifting (maybe a claptrap to some of you) and inspiring short about 2 people finding friendship and the fighting spirit to go against the odds despite their differences. Tightly edited by Derek Tan. The 2 interview subjects made the film very watchable too.” - To read the full review, visit here
